Tonight, we had dinner at Silver Bay Seafood Restaurant in Simpsonville, SC on Main Street. Silver Bay in Simpsonville was voted Best Seafood Restaurant in the Upstate for 2010.
Silver Bay has a number of different specials that they run on a regular basis. Most of these specials run on a particular day each week. On Thursday nights, they have All You Can Eat Crab Legs! I did get a chance to sample some of their crab legs tonight and I must say that they do taste excellent.
While their crab legs special can set you back a cool $27, nearly all of their other specials are actually quite affordable. They offer many weekday specials ranging from calabash chicken to shrimp to flounder. A lot of the single meat specials are around $7 and the combo specials are still under $10. Most of their specials take place between 3 and 9pm during weekdays.
The atmosphere of Silver Bay Restaurant is great. Outside of the building has been landscaped wonderfully. They have two large rock/fountain structures on either side of the entrance. Inside the front door, you have two small fish tanks on either side of the back wall. In the dining room there is a huge fish tank that is roughly 30 feet long by 6 feet wide by 4 feet deep. There is a small sand shark, about a half dozen starfish and many other tropical saltwater fish like blue tangs, yellow tangs, etc.
The employees at Silver Bay were pretty good. It did seem like they like to employ the pretty girls at the checkout counter that is right inside the front door. The waitresses were friendly and helpful. They did a good job, but they didn’t really seem to enjoy their jobs. In their defense, I did catch them at the tail end of their night.
The food at Silver Bay was excellent. Even better, we had five people at our table and only had a total bill of about $45. A number of great items were ordered at my table including grilled chicken, grilled shrimp on skewers, grilled mini shrimp, fried flounder, crab legs and calabash chicken. I was able to sample a few of them and found each of them to be very good. The crab legs had a lot of taste to them and definitely seem like fresh crab legs to me.
Overall, I give Silver Bay Restaurant in Simpsonville, SC an excellent rating. Until I can try some other seafood restaurants in Greenville, the jury will have to be out on whether I agree with their Best of the Upstate award. I do have to admit that they will be hard to beat. Anybody that loves seafood and doesn’t want to pay a fortune for it should definitely check out Silver Bay in Simpsonville.
